Coumba Makalou | | You are cordially invited to come and join us at BUSBOYS AND POETS on Monday January 23 at 7:30pm for a musical journey into the traditional rhythms of Mali (home of Timbuktu, Dogon Country, Djenne etc) and experience a unique performance by The CHEICK HAMALA DIABATE ENSEMBLE. A regular on the Kennedy Center stage, the ensemble will be performing for the benefit of raising money for this very special documentary with World Music Legend, Salif Keita, that will take a look at the social-economic effects of AIDS and Malaria in Mali. Guest speakers will also join us to present the state of the diseases in Mali.
So come out, dance (the african way), support this project and spread the word! Our goal is to raise awareness to the true state of Malaria and AIDS in Mali in a grassroots fashion.
The price is only $15. Our goal is for all to have access to information about this global crisis that is eliminating future generations in Africa, and for all to have the pleasure of having a unique cultural experience, therefore all donations will be accepted. 18 and under are free, Space is limited so RSVP required at 202-436-4438.
